One of the thing that impressed Erica the most from the first day she arrived in Australia is the deep contact with the nature which unfortunately is quite difficult to experience in Europe.
A couple of weeks ago she had the chance to do her first free camping session in one of the best secret gems of the Sunshine Coast: Double Island Point.
It is the next headland north of Noosa and is within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park, at the southern end of Wide Bay.

Before you leave:
To reach the camping spot you need a Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD). All vehicles must be registered and have a valid Cooloola Recreation Area veichle access permit (VAP). You will also need a camping permit that you can book online.

What you need:
Highly recommended is a waterproof tent as the weather might change all of a sudden. You just need to bring whatever you need for a free camping experience (water, food, camp stove etc.). Make sure to have a good company as there isn’t any reception for your mobile phone :) You can also bring with you woods to set up a fire.

How to get there:
Beach access is possible from Rainbow Beach or Tewantin (near Noosa). Access from Tewantin is across the Noosa River ferry at the end of Moorindil Street, Tewantin and then via the beach access points at Noosa North Shore.
Make sure to check the tides condition to choose the best time to drive to you camping site.

We reached the beach at about 3 pm when the tide was low and we found the perfect spot for our camping. After setting up everything we enjoyed a swim in the ocean at sunset hour.
As soon as it got dark, we lighted up the fire and had twirling sesh with fire torch: an amazing opportunity to have fun with light painting! ;)

After a rainy and wet night we reached Double Island Point, located at 20 mins drive from our camping spot. The funniest experience ever was driving on the sand dunes and in the sea pool, simply unforgettable!
We haven’t been very lucky with the weather but I was able to have my first surfing lesson and to swim with two beautiful sea turtles. Definitely one of the best experience of my life.

At the end of the weekend I didn’t want to leave at all and on the way home we even came across an happy Kangaroo family. All I could think was: “Is this really happening?” :)
If you happen to be in Queensland you definitely can’t miss this unique place!

See you there? :)
